Padres eye another series win in finale with D-backs

Apr 15, 2015 - 2:14 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Upton and the San Diego Padres look to win their second straight series on Wednesday night as they wrap a three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Upton hit a solo homer and scored twice in last night's 5-1 victory. The first-year Padre has a hit in all nine games this season, batting .303 with two homers and six RBI.

Matt Kemp, also new to San Diego's outfield this season, added a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run last night, while Odrisamer Despaigne scattered a run and two hits over seven strong innings.

San Diego won for the fourth time in five games as it took three of four last week from the San Francisco Giants.

Jeremy Hellickson took the loss as he was tagged for five runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings for the Diamondbacks, who had won three of four coming in.

Mark Trumbo drove in Arizona's only run with a double in the fourth inning that chased home David Peralta.

Brandon Morrow attempts to pitch the Padres to another win and build off an excellent debut with the club last Friday.

The 30-year-old righty did not get a decision in a 1-0 win over the Giants despite seven scoreless frames of work. He scattered four hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Morrow lost the only previous time he faced the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs over four innings.

Arizona counters with righty Chase Anderson, who kicked off his second major league season with a no-decision versus the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. He yielded three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings of the Diamondbacks' 4-3 win, striking out six.

Anderson faced the Padres three times as a rookie last season, going 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA.

The Diamondbacks have won five of their past seven versus the Padres and went 12-7 in this matchup last season.
