Rangers beat A's in 10 innings
May 3, 2015 - 7:11 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Rougned Odor's bases-loaded single plated Shin-Soo Choo with the winning run in the 10th inning to give the Texas Rangers an 8-7 victory over the Oakland Athletics.Shin-Soo Choo doubled to right field. Robinson Chirinos and Carlos Peguero both walked. R.J. Alvarez then replaced Ryan Cook (0-2) on the mound. Odor's ground ball deflected off the glove of a diving Marcus Semien and into center field to plate Choo.
Josh Reddick's three-run homer capped a six-run seventh inning to give the A's a 7-3 advantage, but Oakland's bullpen failed to hold the lead.
"It's disheartening," A's catcher Stephen Vogt said. "We've played a lot of good games, but our record doesn't show it."
Drew Pomeranz threw the first 5 1/3 innings for the A's, while Nick Martinez went the first six-plus frames for the Rangers.
Keone Kela (1-1) pitched the top of the 10th for his first major league win as the Rangers snapped a four-game skid.
"It's another kick-start to the engine, and allowed everybody to kick in on their own," Kela said.
Kyle Blanks went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI, and Choo belted a three- run homer.
The A's, who lost for the third time in four games, got a couple of breaks in the seventh inning. Ike Davis led off and reached first thanks to a fielding error by shortstop Elvis Andrus. After Brett Lawrie singled to center, Mark Canha hit a ball that caromed off second base umpire Jerry Meals. The sequence may have turned into a double play, but with the bases full, Josh Phegley was hit by a pitch.
Alex Claudio entered from the bullpen, but pinch-hitter Craig Gentry tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center. Billy Burns bunted into a fielder's choice to plate Canha.
Two batters later, Anthony Bass grooved a 3-2 pitch to Reddick, who deposited the ball beyond the right field wall for his third homer of the season and a 7-3 lead.
Blanks singled in Andrus in the home seventh, and Fernando Abad came in to face Choo, who cracked a homer to right, barely over the fence to tie the game.
Burns scored on Reddick's groundout in the top of the first, but Blanks doubled in Prince Fielder in the bottom half of the inning.
Adrian Beltre singled in a run in the third and Blanks led off the home fourth with a homer to left for a 3-1 Texas advantage.
