Orioles aim to bounce back at Yankee Stadium
May 8, 2015 - 2:54 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles try to avoid a fourth straight loss on Friday when they continue their four-game series with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.Baltimore continued to struggle on Thursday, as Alex Rodriguez made more history and helped the Yankees to a 4-3 win.
Rodriguez moved into sole possession of fourth place on baseball's all-time home run list with a solo shot to center in the third inning. His 661st career blast broke a tie with the great Willie Mays and leaves him 101 shy of equally embattled home run king Barry Bonds.
"It's been quite a journey here the last few years," Rodriguez said. "I promised myself that I would come out and enjoy every moment. The way the fans have allowed me to come back and play baseball, the way I repay them is by working hard, playing hard and trying to help our team win."
Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira both knocked in a pair of runs for the division- leading Yankees, who were coming off a successful 4-2 road trip.
Nathan Eovaldi (3-0) pitched into the sixth and earned the win despite a shaky outing. He allowed three runs while walking three and giving up six hits, including solo home runs to Jimmy Paredes and Caleb Joseph.
The Orioles dropped their third straight after Chris Tillman (2-4) was tagged for four runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
"You have to execute pitches, and multiple times tonight I missed," Tillman said.
Baltimore had been swept in a two-game set by the Mets prior to this series.
Hoping to reverse their fortunes on Friday, the Orioles will turn to righty Miguel Gonzalez, who is 3-1 with a 2.59 ERA. Gonzalez won his third consecutive decision on Saturday against Tampa Bay, as he held the Rays to four hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings.
Gonzalez picked up a a win against the Yanks earlier in the year and is 3-3 with a 3.62 ERA against them in 11 starts.
New York, meanwhile, will counter with right-hander Adam Warren, who has won his last two decisions. Warren beat Boston on Sunday, but was not sharp, allowing four runs and four hits with a pair of walks in 5 2/3 innings. Still, he improved to 2-1 on the year to go along with a 4.78 ERA.
This will be Warren's first-ever start versus the O's, but he has faced them 10 times out of the bullpen and is 1-2 against them with an 8.18 ERA.
Baltimore took two of three from the Yankees earlier in the season.
