Harvey eyes 6-0 start vs. Phillies

May 8, 2015 - 2:57 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Harvey shoots for his sixth win of the season Friday, when he leads the New York Mets into the opener of a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Harvey is 5-0 with a 2.41 earned run average in five starts and threw seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over Washington last Friday. Harvey has lasted at least six innings in each of his starts and defeated the Phillies at home on April 14.

The hard-throwing right-hander gave up three runs in six innings of a 6-5 win and improved to 5-0 in six starts lifetime in this series.

New York is coming off a quick two-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles and recorded a 5-1 win on Wednesday. Curtis Granderson and Dilson Herrera both homered and combined for five runs for the Mets.

Jacob deGrom evened his record at 3-3 with seven innings of one-run ball and nine strikeouts.

"We played a good game tonight, all the way around," deGrom said.

The Mets will visit the Chicago Cubs on this trip.

Philadelphia posted a lowly 3-7 mark on its recent journey and is back home for the next 10 games.

The Phillies dropped two of three games in Atlanta and suffered a 7-5 loss to the Braves Wednesday night. Jerome Williams was dealt the loss after giving up six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

"Wasn't what I wanted tonight," Williams said. "Fifth inning unraveled a little bit for me."

Ryan Howard went 3-for-4 with a home run and Ben Revere doubled three times as part of his 4-for-5 performance. Revere also scored twice for the Phillies.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is expected to be in the lineup and did not play the last two games. Phils manager Ryne Sandberg gave Utley some time off to regroup after hitting just .103.

Cole Hamels will start for the Phils Friday night and has a 1-3 mark in six starts to go along with a 4.14 ERA. Hamels was pounded in his last start, a 7-0 loss at Miami on Saturday. He allowed six runs and 10 hits in six innings.

The left-hander and 2008 World Series MVP has struggled in his career against the Mets as evidenced by an 8-14 mark in 31 starts with a 4.09 ERA.

Philadelphia was swept in three games by the Mets from April 13-15.
