San Diego hopes to leave Arizona on high note

May 10, 2015 - 4:42 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres go for a series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday in the finale of a four-game set at Chase Field.

The Padres have taken the last two installments of this matchup after losing Thursday's series opener, and recorded a 6-4 win in 12 innings Saturday night.

Former D-backs slugger Justin Upton broke a 4-4 tie with a leadoff home run in the 12th and Alexi Amarista later followed with an RBI single for the final margin. Wil Myers posted three hits and two runs scored for the Padres, winners in six of the past nine games.

"Our guys, they hung in there. It looked dire there in the 10th. We'll remember this one," Padres manager Bud Black said.

Kevin Quackenbush struck out three batters over the last two innings for the win and starting pitcher Tyson Ross hurled six innings of two-run ball.

The Padres are scheduled to play Seattle twice in the Emerald City next.

Andrew Cashner will try to stop a personal three-game slide when he takes the ball for San Diego Sunday afternoon. Cashner was tagged for six runs -- four earned -- and seven hits through six innings of a 6-0 loss at San Francisco on Tuesday.

Cashner's only win this season came against the Chicago Cubs on April 19. He is 1-5 with a 3.16 earned run average in six starts and has lasted at least six innings in five straight appearances.

The right-hander lost to Arizona on April 13, when he permitted four unearned runs in six innings of an 8-4 setback. Cashner is 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 13 career games (9 starts) against the D-backs.

Arizona tied the ballgame at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth thanks to pinch- hitter Danny Dorn's two-run double. David Peralta and Arizona starter Chase Anderson had an RBI apiece for the D-backs, whose current slide comes on the heels of a three-game win streak. Arizona has dropped nine of its last 14.

Anderson was solid through seven innings on the mound, charged with only a run and five hits.

"To get seven out of him we're happy," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. "Maybe we should have left him in. He had only 93 (pitches)."

Randall Delgado was responsible for the go-ahead runs in the 12th and suffered the loss.

The Diamondbacks, who are slated to host Washington for three games, are expected to send Daniel Hudson to the mound Sunday, according to the club's Twitter account. Hudson has made nine appearances out of the bullpen this season and is 0-1 with a 6.17 ERA.

Hudson, a right-hander, hasn't made a start for Arizona since 2012 and has enjoyed success against the Padres. In 10 career meetings (6 starts) with San Diego, Hudson is 5-1 with a 1.85 ERA.

San Diego took two of three games from the Diamondbacks in mid-April.
