White Sox turn to Samardzija in opener with Brewers

May 11, 2015 - 2:44 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Samardzija is done serving his five-game suspension and will take the hill for the Chicago White Sox Monday in the opener of a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Samardzija was penalized for his part in a brawl with the Kansas City Royals on April 23 and is 2-2 with a 4.38 earned run average in six starts. He previously toed the rubber last Tuesday in a 5-2 win over Detroit and tossed seven innings of two-run ball.

The right-hander, who is 0-2 in three road starts, has faced Milwaukee 22 times (8 starts) in his career and is 2-6 with a 4.55 ERA.

Chicago has won two straight and four of six games, and recorded a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, Gordon Beckham had an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to plate Avisail Garcia for the game-winning run.

"I guess she'll get a present now from that bat," Beckham said of his mom on Mother's Day.

David Robertson picked up the win in relief and starter John Danks threw seven innings of one-run ball.

The White Sox will also visit Oakland on this six-game trek.

Milwaukee won two of three meetings with the Cubs this weekend and took Sunday's series finale by a 3-2 score in 11 innings.

Martin Maldonado hit the game-winning single in the 11th and also homered, while Elian Herrera went deep for the Brewers, who have won two straight and six of their last nine games.

"I couldn't be happier that I have my mom here on Mother's Day, first time," Maldonado said.

Michael Blazek threw a scoreless inning of relief for the win and starter Matt Garza struck out nine in seven innings of work. He allowed just one run and three hits.

Wily Peralta will start for the Brewers and he snapped a four-start losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. He gave up two runs over a season-high eight innings.

Peralta has never faced the White Sox.

The Brewers are 4-3 on a 10-game homestand and lost two of three matchups with the White Sox back in 2012 in the Windy City. The White Sox have won 10 of the last 12 games in this series.
