White Sox complete sweep of A's

May 17, 2015 - 11:37 PM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexei Ramirez's two-run single highlighted a four-run top of the fifth inning and the Chicago White Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-3 to sweep a three-game set.

Jeff Samardzija (3-2) limited his former team to three runs on eight hits and three walks over eight innings for Chicago, which has won five straight and seven of its last eight games. Oakland received Samardzija from the Chicago Cubs in July in anticipation for its playoff push, but the A's lost to the Kansas City Royals in the wild-card game and Samardzija never threw a pitch in the postseason.

"As the game went one I felt more comfortable," Samardzija said. "I have the utmost respect for those guys over there."

Avisail Garcia smacked a two-run homer in the triumph.

Scott Kazmir (2-2) struck out six, but surrendered five runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and three walks over 4 1/3 frames for the A's, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 contests.

Oakland has posted errors in 14 straight games.

"We have to play cleaner games," A's manager Bob Melvin said.

Max Muncy launched his first career homer, a two-run shot, in defeat.

The A's led 2-1 before the White Sox surged in front in the fifth.

Adam Eaton reached on a fielding error by shortstop Marcus Semien to begin the frame and Emilio Bonifacio followed with a single to left-center. Bonifacio was retired at second on Melky Cabrera's grounder to short, putting runners on the corners, and Jose Abreu pushed across Eaton with a base hit through the hole on the left side to tie the score.

Garcia's single loaded the bases and Cabrera scored the go-ahead run on a Gordon Beckham walk. Ramirez's bouncer deflected off Kazmir's glove and ricocheted into the outfield to bring home Abreu and Garcia to give the White Sox a 5-2 lead. Dan Otero replaced Kazmir on the mound and Geovany Soto grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.

Billy Butler's RBI groundout in the home half cut the deficit to 5-3.

Garcia's two-run blast cleared the wall in right-center to make it 7-3.

Earlier, Garcia's run-scoring groundout scored Eaton, who led off the game with a double, but Oakland scored two runs in the fourth to go in front.

Coco Crisp worked a one-out walk and Muncy launched his two-run shot just over the wall in right-center.
