Vogelsong, Panik lead Giants to sweep of Brewers

May 27, 2015 - 10:24 PM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Vogelsong threw six strong innings, Joe Panik hit a two-run homer and the San Francisco Giants beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep at Miller Park.

Vogelsong (4-2) won a fourth consecutive decision after giving up one run, six hits and no walks while striking out five.

"He's locked in," said Panik. "He set the tone today. He had a runner on third base with less than two outs a couple of times and didn't give in."

The Giants wrapped up a 5-2 road trip with their 11th win in 13 games.

Their pitchers faced the minimum over the last four innings, with relievers Hunter Strickland, Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla each throwing one perfect inning apiece.

The bullpen combined for five strikeouts and Casilla earned his 14th save of the season.

Kris Davis hit two triples for Milwaukee, but didn't score either time.

The MLB-worst Brewers have dropped five games in a row, falling to 16-32 this season.

Mike Fiers (1-5) started in place of Wily Peralta, who went on the disabled list Monday with a strained left oblique. Fiers allowed two runs on eight hits and no walks and had six strikeouts in five innings.

"We're going through a tough time right now," said Fiers. "But all these guys are battling. We have four months left. There's a lot of time to turn it around."

Vogelsong struck out two in a row after Davis tripled in the first inning. It was Milwaukee's only baserunner until Davis tripled again off the right-field wall leading off the bottom of the fourth.

Davis was thrown out at home trying to score on Adam Lind's ground ball, but the Brewers scored the first run of the game in the inning when Aramis Ramirez and Elian Herrera hit consecutive singles.

San Francisco had plenty of baserunners but nothing to show for it until Panik followed Nori Aoki's leadoff single in the fifth inning with a blast into the right-field seats.

Michael Blazek replaced Fiers and pitched two perfect innings and Jonathan Broxton threw a 1-2-3 eighth for the Brewers, but Francisco Rodriguez gave up a run in the ninth when Angel Pagan led off with a double, moved up on a groundout and scored on Gregor Blanco's pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

Game Notes

The Giants are 5-0 in Vogelsong's last five starts. He has given up just four total runs over 31 2/3 innings in those outings ... It was Panik's third home run of the season ... The Giants will host Atlanta in a four-game series starting Thursday ... The Brewers remain home for a three-game series with Arizona beginning Friday.
