Jun 6, 2015 - 3:30 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Will Middlebrooks hit a solo home run and drove in two as the San Diego Padres took a 6-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three-game set.Will Venable and Derek Norris also hit solo homers for the Padres, who have won their last three games. Tyson Ross (3-5) pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts for the win.
Joey Votto hit a two-run single for the Reds, who have dropped three of their last four. Jon Moscot (0-1) gave up four runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts over five innings to take the loss in his major-league debut.
The Padres pushed a pair of runs across in the first inning as Yonder Alonso worked a bases-loaded walk and Middlebrooks followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
Venable homered with one out in the second, and Middlebrooks smacked a two-out solo shot in the third for a 4-0 lead.
The Reds finally got on the board in the fifth with a pair of runs as Votto singled to left with the bases loaded to score two and make it a 4-2 game.
With two outs in the sixth, Cory Spangenberg singled and Alexi Amarista followed with a double for a 5-2 lead, and the game went into a rain delay.
The delay lasted 69 minutes, and when play resumed Norris homered in the seventh for a 6-2 advantage.
Brandon Maurer, Joaquin Benoit and Frank Garces each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for San Diego to close out the win.
