Frias, Dodgers top D-backs

Jun 10, 2015 - 5:19 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Frias tossed 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball and Howie Kendrick drove in all three runs in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Frias, who had lost three of his last four starts, yielded eight hits and a walk but kept his team in the game with timely pitches and outdueled D-backs starter Robbie Ray.

"Carlos gave up hits early, I think six hits by the third inning," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "But he settled down, changed speeds and kept them off-balance. He gave up hits but he got the big outs."

Ray (1-1) was responsible for two runs on four hits and four walks over 6 2/3 innings in his second start filling in for the injured Archie Bradley.

"Robbie did a good job," said D-backs manager Chip Hale. "He battled. Nice pitch count. They have good hitters over there."

Arizona's lone run came in the second inning, but it would have been more had David Peralta not been thrown out trying to steal after his leadoff single. After that out, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Nick Ahmed singled and Ray moved the former into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

He scored on Frias' wild pitch.

Ray held the 1-0 lead until Kendrick took him out to right field with one out in the sixth inning. Then in the seventh, Ray recorded two quick outs before walking Chris Heisey to end his stint.

Yasiel Puig greeted reliever Addison Reed with a double to center and after Adrian Gonzalez was walked intentionally to set up a force, Kendrick delivered the eventual game-winning two-run single to center.

"It motivates every guy when they walk the guy in front of you to get to you," said Kendrick."

Adam Liberatore (2-1) finished the seventh with a three-pitch strikeout to earn the win for Los Angeles, which got clean innings of relief out of Yimi Garcia and Kenley Jansen.

Jansen picked up his seventh save.

Game Notes

The Dodgers have won eight straight and 12 of their last 13 home games against Arizona ... Kendrick and Puig had two hits apiece for the Dodgers, who were outhit 9-7 ... Arizona went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
