Bucs try to avoid Brewers' brooms

Jun 10, 2015 - 11:44 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Charlie Morton goes after his fourth win in as many starts on Wednesday when the Pittsburgh Pirates try to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC PArk.

Morton, who has pitched to a 2.84 ERA this season, was not particularly sharp against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, but earned the win, despite allowing four runs (3 earned) and seven hits with three walks in five innings.

The 31-year-old righty has faced Milwaukee 11 times and is 2-6 with a 4.63 ERA.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, will hand the ball to right-hander Kyle Lohse, who is 3-6 with the majors' worst ERA at 6.59 ERA. Lohse's winless streak reached four starts on Friday with a no-decision in Minnesota, as he gave up five runs and eight hits in six innings.

Lohse is 11-5 with a 4.02 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) versus the Pirates.

Milwaukee won again on Tuesday, as Taylor Jungmann dazzled in his major- league debut, turning in seven quality innings to lead the Brewers to a 4-1 victory.

Jungmann (1-0), who owned a 6.37 ERA in 11 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs this season, was locked in against Pittsburgh from the first pitch. He allowed the lone run on just three hits while striking out five.

"He's here, and he did his job," said Brewers manager Craig Counsell. "He'll get the start on Sunday."

Aramis Ramirez and James Rogers each hit solo home runs and drive in two runs to back Jungmann, who outdueled veteran Francisco Liriano (3-5).

Liriano allowed three runs on five hits over eight innings for the Pirates, as he fell to 1-4 in six home starts this season.

"Couple ground balls found the hole, and that's just part of the game," said Liriano.

Pittsburgh has won five of eight from the Brewers this season.
