White Sox edge Rangers to snap 8-game skid
Jun 21, 2015 - 12:42 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Rodon tossed six strong frames as the Chicago White Sox snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game set on Saturday.Rodon (3-1) allowed two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five. Alexei Ramirez and Adam LaRoche each drove in a run in the win for the White Sox.
"We'll take what we can get at this point," said Chicago manager Robin Ventura. "We got some breaks our way today. Of course you want to get more runs, but the pitching was on today."
Nick Martinez (5-3) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits over six innings for the Rangers, who have dropped two of their last three. Carlos Corporan and Rougned Odor drove in a run each.
"Our guys have competed very well," said Texas manager Jeff Banister. "Today we probably helped them out a little too much with chasing pitches out of the zone."
Chicago left the bases loaded in the first inning, but managed to get all of its runs in the third inning.
Adam Eaton, Avisail Garcia and Jose Abreu each singled to load the bags. A sacrifice fly from LaRoche scored one and Melky Cabrera was then hit by a pitch for a second time in the game. Alexei Ramirez then was able to reach base as he hit a grounder to short that Elvis Andrus misplayed, allowing two runs to score for a 3-0 lead.
Texas got back two in the fifth to make it a one-run game. Ryan Rua led off with a single and Adam Rosales walked before Leonys Martin sacrificed them over a bag. Corporan then singled home a run, and a fielder's choice from Odor plated another to make it a 3-2 game.
The Rangers, though, managed just one more baserunner, and David Robertson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 14th save of the season.
