Bettis, Rockies visit A's for rubber match

Jul 1, 2015 - 12:46 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Chad Bettis takes aim at a third straight winning start Wednesday afternoon when the Colorado Rockies visit the Oakland Athletics for the rubber match of a three-game series.

Bettis has posted consecutive wins over Milwaukee and San Francisco, improving to 4-2 on the year through nine starts with a 3.56 earned run average. He has allowed four homers over his last three outings after not giving up any over his first six.

The 26-year-old righty held the Giants to three runs, six hits and two walks over six innings in Friday's 8-6 win and hopes to keep the momentum going in his first career start with the Rockies.

Jesse Hahn gets the call today for the Athletics and is coming off his first loss in nearly a month.

Hahn lost for the first time in four decisions on Friday against Kansas City, blitzed for five runs -- three earned -- on nine hits and a walk over six innings. The righty struck out five but also allowed a pair of homers in his first setback since May 30.

"It was a weird night," Hahn said. "I got behind a lot which led to plays that didn't go our way."

The loss dropped Hahn to 5-6 with a 3.47 ERA this year and he is 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA in two previous encounters with the Rockies, including one start.

Colorado evened the series with last night's 2-1 win behind Jorge De La Rosa's seven scoreless innings. He scattered four hits, four walks and fanned four.

"I was really impressed (with De La Rosa)," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. He's the guy we want to give the ball to in these situations."

Charlie Blackmon drove in a run and Wilin Rosario scored on a wild pitch for the Rockies. Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 17 games, while Troy Tulowitzki has had a hit in 14 straight.

Colorado, which had lost 14 straight interleague road games, snapped its three-game losing streak.

Chris Bassitt made a spot start in place of ace Sonny Gray, who was scratched after being hospitalized due to flu-like symptoms. Bassitt allowed one run on five hits over five innings.

"I felt OK," Bassitt said. "I didn't have much feel tonight, tried to pound the zone as best I could."

The A's, who have lost four of their last five, go an RBI hit from Billy Butler in the eighth inning.

The A's swept a three-game set in Colorado the last time they faced the Rockies in 2012. They are hosting this series for the first time since 2009, when the Rockies took all three meetings.
