Tigers still looking for first win of season
Apr 9, 2008 - 1:00 PM Detroit (0-7) at Boston (4-4) 7:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) - Considered by many to be one of the favorites to win the American League pennant this season, the Detroit Tigers are still looking for their first win in 2008.
Detroit hopes to snap a season-opening, seven-game losing streak when they visit the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.
The Tigers, who traded for Edgar Renteria and Miguel Cabrera to add to an already potent lineup, have scored just 15 runs through the first seven games.
Detroit was shutout by Boston in the opener of a three-game set, 5-0, on Tuesday.
Jeremy Bonderman (0-1, 5.68 ERA) hopes to have more run support in his second start after dropping a 4-1 decision to Kansas City last Thursday. The righthander surrendered four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings.
The Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with the win in their home opener and will send Jon Lester (1-1, 3.37) to the mound.
The 24-year-old lefthander was sharp in his second start, pitching 6 2/3 shutout innings with three hits and three walks, striking out three in a 5-0 victory against Oakland on April 2.
Boston's David Ortiz is still trying to find his swing as the lefthanded slugger is batting just .103 (3-for-29) with one home run and three RBI thus far.
