Tigers look to make it two in a row vs. Red Sox

BOSTON (Ticker) - Finally in possession of their first win of the 2008 season, the Detroit Tigers will try to make it two straight when they visit the Boston Red Sox Thursday in the rubber match of a three-game set.

The Tigers became the last team in the majors to earn a win this season when they beat the Red Sox, 7-2, on Wednesday.

Former Boston shortstop Edgar Renteria drove in a pair of runs and Marcus Thames homered as Detroit topped five runs in a contest for the first time this season.

The much-maligned Tigers bullpen also got on track, tossing four scoreless innings in relief of starter Jeremy Bonderman to seal the victory.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz continued to struggle in the setback. The All-Star designated hitter went 0-for-4 on Wednesday to drop his average to .091 (3-for-33).

Tim Wakefield (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will get the start for Boston, looking to build on an encouraging first outing last week.

The veteran knuckleballer tossed five scoreless innings against Toronto on April 4 before allowing three runs in the sixth and settling for a no decision.

The Tigers will counter with lefthander Nate Robertson (0-0, 9.00). The 30-year-old got knocked around in his first start of the season last Friday, allowing five runs and seven hits in five innings against the Chicago White Sox.

Robertson has never fared well against Boston, owning a 2-3 record with a 6.42 ERA in 11 career starts.
