Cardinals' Lohse seeks third straight win

Apr 17, 2008 - 1:02 PM Milwaukee (8-6) at St Louis (11-4) 1:15 pm EDT

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - Kyle Lohse has given the St. Louis Cardinals exactly what they needed.

Lohse goes for his third straight win on Thursday when the Cardinals try to sweep a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 29-year-old righthander, who signed a free-agent contract with St. Louis during the offseason, has done a terrific job filling in for injured ace Chris Carpenter, who is likely out until July after having Tommy John surgery last season.

Lohse (2-0, 1.04 ERA) allowed two runs - his first of the season - and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings on Friday, leading the Cardinals to an 8-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. It marked the team's seventh straight home win.

However, Lohse has struggled against the Brewers during his career, posting a 3-3 record with a 5.66 ERA in eight appearances - seven starts.

Manny Parra (1-1, 4.82) looks to bounce back when he toes the rubber for Milwaukee on Thursday.

The 25-year-old lefthander allowed three runs and six hits in four innings as the Brewers suffered a 4-2 loss to the New York Mets on Friday.
