Bonser, Twins aim for sweep of Rays

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Minnesota Twins will try to complete a two-game series sweep against the Tampa Bay Rays in Thursday's finale.

In Wednesday's opener, Joe Mauer had three hits and scored twice for the Twins, who snapped a three-game slide while sending the Rays to their third straight loss with a 6-5 victory.

Minnesota will hand the ball to Boof Bonser (1-2, 2.84 ERA), who was lights out for his first win of the season. The 6-4 righthander tossed six scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory at Kansas City on Saturday.

Bonser owns a 1-0 record with a 3.06 ERA through three career starts against Tampa Bay, which hopes to avoid dropping its fourth straight road outing.

Jason Hammel (0-1, 4.15) gets the call for the Rays. Hammel was impressive in his last start, giving up two runs over seven innings in a no-decision against the Baltimore Orioles.

In his lone appearance in the series, the righthander was tagged for four runs on eight hits in six frames during his rookie year on September 6, 2006.
