Cubs aim for seventh straight win over Pirates
Apr 18, 2008 - 12:34 PM Pittsburgh (7-8) at Chicago Cubs (9-6) 2:20 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - The Chicago Cubs aim to bounce back from their first loss in nearly a week on Friday as they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the opener of a three-game series.
Chicago, which is without Alfonso Soriano due to a right calf strain, had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 9-2 loss to Cincinnati on Thursday.
However, a game against the Pirates should help them get back on track. The Cubs have won six straight over Pittsburgh, including a pair of extra inning games at PNC Park last week.
If the Cubs are to continue their dominance of the Pirates they will need Rich Hill (0-0, 5.00 ERA) to shake off the early-season rust. The lefthander allowed three runs and four hits in three innings of a 7-3 victory over Pittsburgh on April 10.
Hill has struggled so badly he was demoted to bullpen duty during last weekend's series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Meanwhile, the Pirates hand the ball to ace Ian Snell in hopes that he can put a halt to their two-game skid. Snell (2-0, 3.93) allowed three runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-3 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday.
Nate McLouth has a hit in each of the Pirates' first 15 games.
