Tigers still trying to build momentum

TORONTO (Ticker) - The Detroit Tigers appeared to be turning the corner on their dismal start. But an embarrassing loss on Thursday may have set the team back.

The Tigers try to rebound from an ugly setback when they open a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

After winning just two of its first 12 games, Detroit put together a three-game winning streak by outscoring the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians, 30-16, over that span.

However, the Tigers endured an 11-1 drubbing against the Indians on Thursday as Miguel Cabrera drove in Detroit's only run in the sixth inning.

Kenny Rogers (0-3, 6.75 ERA), who is 0-3 for the first time since the 1991 season, tries to get the Tigers back on track when he takes the mound on Friday.

The veteran lefthander allowed seven runs and seven hits in four innings during an 11-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

Blue Jays starter David Purcey will make his major-league debut on Friday after the righthander posted a 2-0 record and 1.89 ERA in two starts with Class AAA-Syracuse this season.
