Webb, Diamondbacks look to keep rolling
Apr 22, 2008 - 1:44 PM San Francisco (8-12) at Arizona (14-5) 9:40 pm EDTPHOENIX (Ticker) - Brandon Webb is eyeing his fifth consecutive win as the Arizona Diamondbacks square off against the San Francisco Giants in the finale of a two-game series Tuesday.
Webb (4-0, 1.86 ERA) has pitched at least six innings in each of his four outings this season, giving up no more than two runs in each of those contests.
The Diamondbacks ace pitched eight frames in his last start, allowing just one run and three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Giants.
San Francisco starter Barry Zito (0-4, 4.50) was on the losing end of that exchange and will be on the mound again in this one. The lefthander lasted six innings, surrendering four runs - three earned - on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts.
Zito, who is trying to avoid his fifth loss in as many starts this season, has received very little run support. The Giants have managed just three runs in the four games Zito has started this year.
Mark Reynolds, Eric Byrnes and Orlando Hudson each homered Monday as the Diamondbacks pulled out a 4-2 victory over the Giants.
Fred Lewis hit a solo blast for San Francisco, which has lost four of its previous six contests.
