Maddux seeks 350th career win vs. Giants
Apr 23, 2008 - 1:51 PM San Francisco (8-13) at San Diego (9-12) 10:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) - San Diego Padres' veteran Greg Maddux attempts to reach another milestone Wednesday when the club hosts the San Francisco Giants.
With a victory, the 43-year-old pitcher will nail down the 350th win of his career.
Maddux (2-1, 4.68 ERA) pitched well his last time out against the Giants on April 7, yielding just one run and three hits over seven innings during an 8-4 victory.
But the righthander will need to bounce back after giving up season highs in runs (nine) and hits (13) in a loss at Arizona on Friday. It was the first time he allowed nine runs since 2004.
Matt Cain (0-2, 6.64) gets the call for San Francisco, which was swept in its two-game road series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with Tuesday's 5-4 loss.
Cain was pounded for nine runs and eight hits in just 3 2/3 innings of an 11-1 setback at St. Louis on Friday. The righthander hasn't registered a win since August 28 - a span of nine starts.
San Diego returns home after capturing just one win during its six-game road swing.
