Minus Dye, White Sox host Orioles
Apr 25, 2008 - 1:31 PM Baltimore (13-9) at Chi White Sox (12-9) 8:11 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - Jermaine Dye will not get a chance to continue his mastery of the Baltimore Orioles.
Dye will sit out with a groin injury on Friday when the Chicago White Sox host the Orioles in the opener of a four-game series.
Dye, who is hitting .360 (32-for-89) with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in the last 22 games vs. Baltimore, left Thursday's 7-6 victory over the New York Yankees with a left groin strain.
Prior to leaving, the rightfielder had an RBI single during a five-run fourth that helped the White Sox avoid a three-game losing streak.
With Dye out, the White Sox will need Joe Crede and Jim Thome to continue to produce. Crede hit a walk-off single in the ninth on Thursday, while Thome blasted his fourth home run in the last nine games.
Mark Buehrle (1-2, 5.96 ERA) gets the ball for Chicago. The lefthander has lost his last two starts, and has allowed 21 hits in his last 14 innings.
Baltimore, which rallied for an 8-7 victory over Seattle on Thursday, will counter with Brian Burres (2-1, 3.63 ERA). Burres allowed five hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 6-0 victory over the Yankees on Saturday.
