Sizzling Webb seeks seventh straight win

PHOENIX (Ticker) - Brandon Webb takes the hill on Saturday looking for his franchise-record tying seventh straight win as the Arizona Diamondbacks continue a three-game series with the New York Mets.

The 2006 Cy Young Award winner, Webb became the majors' first six-game winner on Sunday by limiting the San Diego Padres to one unearned run and five hits in six innings of a 2-1 victory.

If Webb (6-0, 1.98 ERA) can slow the suddenly-hot Mets' lineup, he will join Randy Johnson in the Diamondbacks' record book. Johnson set the franchise mark for consecutive wins in 2000.

However, slowing the Mets may be a lot tougher now that Jose Reyes has begun to heat up. Reyes finished a home run shy of the cycle and Ryan Church homered and drove in three runs as the Mets coasted to a 7-2 victory in the series opener on Friday.

Reyes, who entered hitting just .250 (26-of-104), tried for an inside-the-park home run in the seventh but was thrown out by a wide margin.

Mike Pelfrey (2-1, 4.43) gets the ball for New York. The 24-year-old righthander has yielded nine runs and 19 hits in his last 10 1/3 innings.
