Myers tries to turn things around against Giants

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Brett Myers' transition to the starting rotation is not going as well as the Philadelphia Phillies had hoped.

Myers takes the hill on Saturday looking to put a pair of bad starts behind him as the Phillies continue a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants.

Myers (2-2, 5.11 ERA), who was a starter his entire career before serving as the Phillies closer last season, has allowed 10 runs and 19 hits in his last 12 innings.

However, the righthander make have room for error considering the way the Phillies have been swinging the bats.

Chase Utley and Pedro Feliz each hit a two-run home run, and Pat Burrell hit a walk-off blast in the 10th inning as Philadelphia took the series opener, 6-5, on Friday.

Utley has a major-league leading 12 home runs and Burrell is hitting .340 (34-for-100) with a National League-best 28 RBI.

Matt Cain, who is having some control problems, will have the task of slowing down the Philadelphia offense. Cain (1-2, 4.41) tied his season high with five walks, but allowed just four hits in 5 1/3 innings during a 4-0 victory over Colorado on Monday.

Cain has issued 23 walks in 32 2/3 innings this season.
