Blue Jays aim to sweep punchless White Sox
May 5, 2008 - 1:50 PM Chi White Sox (14-15) at Toronto (15-17) 7:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) - The Chicago White Sox had the worst batting average in the American League heading into the series with the Toronto Blue Jays this past Friday. It's gotten worse since then.
Toronto looks to complete a four-game sweep when they host Chicago on Monday.
The White Sox have managed just five runs in their three losses against the Blue Jays and are hitting 12-for-93 (.129) during the series.
Roy Halladay led Toronto to a 4-3 victory over Chicago on Sunday with 7 1/3 solid innings. The White Sox had only four hits as a team.
Chicago's team batting average has dropped to .235, which remains last in the AL.
Dustin McGowan (1-2, 3.57 ERA) will try and keep the Chicago bats silenced when he takes the mound for Toronto.
The righthander is coming off a strong outing at Boston on Wednesday, giving up one run and four hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. McGowan did not factor into the decision, however, as the Red Sox won the game, 2-1.
Javier Vazquez (3-2, 3.72) will get the call for the White Sox as he looks to build on a solid start his last time out.
Vazquez surrendered just one run and four hits with seven strikeouts in eight innings, but did not factor in the decision on April 28. Chicago blew a one-run lead in the ninth and the 3-3 game with Baltimore will be finished later in the season.
The 31-year-old righthander is 4-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 12 career starts against Toronto.
