Belisle, Reds seek four-game series sweep of Marlins

May 15, 2008 - 1:51 PM Florida (23-17) at Cincinnati (18-23) 7:10 pm EDT

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - Matt Belisle will try to overcome his recent struggles on Thursday as the Cincinnati Reds look to complete a four-game sweep of the Florida Marlins for the first time in nearly nine years.

The Marlins entered this series on a season-high seven-game winning streak. However, the Reds have cooled them off. Paul Janish had a memorable debut on Wednesday as he delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to lead the Reds to a 8-7 victory.

Cincinnati has won six straight over Florida, but has not posted a four-game sweep of the Marlins since September 1999.

It may be difficult to accomplish if Belisle (1-3, 7.45 ERA) cannot get on track. The righthander was pounded for six runs - five earned - and seven hits in five innings of a 12-6 loss to New York on Saturday.

Belisle has yielded 12 runs and 20 hits in his last 15 1/3 frames.

Meanwhile, Andrew Miller (3-2, 6.52) is headed in the opposite direction of Belisle. Miller, who was acquired from Detroit in the Dontrelle Willis-Miguel Cabrera deal, is 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA in his last four starts.

The 22-year-old lefthander allowed just two hits in seven innings of an 11-0 victory over Washington on Saturday - his second straight win.
