Perez, Mets seek abreviated series win over Yankees

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Johan Santana helped the New York Mets to a much-needed victory. Oliver Perez will try to keep the momentum going.

Perez takes the hill Sunday night as the Mets wrap up an abbreviated "Subway Series" with the cross-town rival New York Yankees.

Santana threw a season-high 7 2/3 innings while David Wright and Jose Reyes homered as the Mets posted a 7-4 win in Saturday's series opener.

It was a key win for the Mets, who lost three of four to Washington and held a players' only meeting prior to Friday's rainout.

Perez (3-3, 4.61 ERA) has been wildly inconsistent this season. The lefthander allowed just three runs and three hits with a season-high tying eight strikeouts in six innings of a 8-3 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday.

Prior to that, Perez had lost three straight starts.

The Yankees, who have lost seven of their last 10 games, will counter with ace Chien-Ming Wang (6-1, 2.90), who allowed one run in seven innings but did not factor into the decision of a 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
