Marcum hopes to tame potent Phillies' offense

One daylater, the task doesn't figure to get any easier against ShaunMarcum.Marcum and the Toronto Blue Jays attempt to capture their secondconsecutive series win on Sunday when they meet the Phillies inthe rubber game of a three-game interleague set.Philadelphia, which is fifth in the National League and seventhin the majors in runs scored, was held under five runs for thefirst time in five games in Saturday's 5-3 loss. Burnettallowed two runs and four hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking outeight in the win.So far this season, however, no Blue Jays starter has been aseffective as Marcum (4-2, 2.22 ERA), whose ERA is tops on theteam and fourth-best in the American League.The righthander was solid but did not receive the decision inthe second game of Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland,allowing just two hits and striking out five over eight framesin a 3-0 win that lasted 10 innings.The 26-year-old has limited opponents to two runs or less in hislast four outings.Marcum's opponent on the mound in the finale will be KyleKendrick (3-2, 4.87), who will be looking for his third straightwin. The righthander permitted three runs and six hits withfour walks over six innings in Tuesday's 5-4 victory overAtlanta.- ML
