Minus Church, Mets continue series vs. Braves

ATLANTA (Ticker) - The New York Mets may have to rebound from a doubleheader sweep without their hottest hitter. Ryan Church will likely sit out Wednesday when the Mets continue a four-game series with the Atlanta Braves.

New York was outscored, 12-3, in dropping both games of a day-night doubleheader here on Tuesday.

However, the biggest loss came on the last play of the second game as Church suffered a mild concussion when he tried to break up a double play and was hit in the head by the knee of Yunel Escobar at second base.

Church, who also suffered a concussion in spring training, had to be helped off the field. The right fielder has been the Mets' best player thus far hitting .311 with nine home runs and 32 RBI.

New York hopes that Mike Pelfrey (2-4, 4.17 ERA) can pick up some of the slack.

Pelfrey is coming off the finest outing of his young career. The righthander carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against Washington on Thursday, but received a tough loss as the Mets failed to give him any run support in a 1-0 setback.

Pelfrey will be opposed by Jair Jurrjens (4-3, 2.82). Jurrjens allowed two unearned runs and eight hits in five innings, but did not receive a decision in a 3-2 win over Oakland on Friday.
