Brewers look to split series with Nationals

May 26, 2008 - 1:25 PM Milwaukee (23-27) at Washington (22-29) 1:05 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers are seeking a split in their four-game series with Washington Nationals on Monday.

The Brewers will send ace Ben Sheets (5-1, 2.91 ERA) to the mound. Sheets has been particularly impressive on the road, despite the team struggling to a 12-18 record away from home.

The 29-year-old Sheets has not sturggle anywhere, posting a 4-0 record with a 2.52 ERA over his six road starts this season.

The righthander tossed a complete game in his last outing, allowing a run and 11 hits with no walks and six strikeouts in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Nationals will counter with Jason Bergmann (1-1, 5.47), who has not allowed a run over his last 14 innings. After being recalled from Class AAA Columbus on May 15, Bergmann has put together a pair of stellar outings.

The 26-year-old righthander tossed seven scoreless against the New York Mets during a 1-0 victory in his first start back and then was not involved in the decision in a 1-0 setback against the Philadelphia Phillies.

After spliting the first two games of the series, the Nationals capitalized a crucial mistake to pick up the win Sunday. With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, Elijah Dukes scored on Guillermo Mota's wild pitch to give Washington a 7-6 win over Milwaukee.
