Royals return home to looking to end losing streak

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - After a dreadful road trip, the Kansas City Royals look to end an eight-game losing streak when they host the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

Kansas City won just twice during their 11-game road swing and were swept in a pair of four-game series at Boston and Toronto. The Royals also were outscored, 23-4, over the weekend by the Blue Jays.

The Royals have scored just 16 runs during the skid and have been shutout twice over that span.

Brian Bannister (4-6, 4.94 ERA) hopes to get the Royals back on track when he takes the hill. The righthander has dropped his last two starts and gave up seven runs in 5 1/3 innings during Thursday's 11-8 loss at Boston.

Bannister threw a complete game in his only start against the Twins this season, giving up one unearned run and three hits on April 13.

The Twins won two out of three over the weekend against Detroit and will counter with rookie Nick Blackburn (4-3, 3.55) on the mound.

Blackburn lost his last start, giving up seven runs - just one earned - and 10 hits over six innings in Minnesota's 10-1 loss to Texas last Wednesday.

Minnesota won two of three in the first series between the teams earlier this season, blanking Kansas City in both victories.
