Matsuzaka goes for ninth win as Red Sox visit Seattle
May 27, 2008 - 12:08 PM Boston (32-22) at Seattle (18-34) 10:10 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) - Daisuke Matsuzaka hopes to keep his record unblemished when the Boston Red Sox take the field against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
Matsuzaka (8-0, 2.40) continued his stellar season in his last performance, limiting the Kansas City Royals to three runs with seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of an 11-8 win on Thursday.
The Japanese import also looks to become the second nine-game winner in the majors, as he would join Arizona Diamondbacks' ace Brandon Webb.
The righthander is just 1-1 with a 4.33 in four lifetime starts against the Mariners.
Seattle counters with Miguel Batista (3-6, 6.47), who has dropped his last two starts - including 9-2 decision at Detroit where he was pounded for five runs and seven hits in three innings.
Batista will try to reach .500 against the defending World Series champion Red Sox, who are just 11-17 on the road.
Bartolo Colon tossed seven strong innings as the Red Sox used a four-run eighth to post a 5-3 win over the Mariners on Monday in the series opener.
