Road-weary Braves seeking offense vs. Brewers
May 29, 2008 - 1:39 PM Atlanta (28-25) at Milwaukee (26-27), 1:05 p.m. EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Chipper Jones and the Atlanta Braves will look to generate some offense and avoid a three-game sweep Thursday when they face the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jones, who leads the club with a .418 batting average, 12 home runs and 35 RBI, is hoping to help his club end a 16-inning scoreless streak. After Kelly Johnson and Gregor Blanco homered in each of the first two innings during the series opener on Tuesday, the Braves have not managed another run.
Atlanta's offensive ineptness continued Wednesday as Rickie Weeks' RBI triple in the eighth frame was all the offense Milwaukee needed in the 1-0 victory.
Brewers starter Seth McClung (2-1, 3.55 ERA) will hope to continue the trend in just his second start of the season. In his first start, the righthander allowed two runs and four hits with no walks and four strikeouts over five innings during Saturday's 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals.
The Braves, who are just 6-18 away from Turner Field this season, will send Jorge Campillo (1-0, 0.86) to the mound. The 29-year-old Mexican righthander has been impressive since moving to the rotation, tossing 10 scoreless frames in his two starts.
Campillo lasted just four innings in Saturday's 3-1 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks, yielding just two hits with no walks and three strikeouts before leaving with a blister on his throwing hand.
