Final/13
Giants poised to feast on lowly Padres
May 30, 2008 - 1:52 PM San Diego (21-34) at San Francisco (23-31) 10:15 p.m. EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- After completing a sweep of the top team in the National League West, the San Francisco Giants are aiming to beat up one of the worst clubs in the division.
The Giants go for their fourth straight win on Friday when they open a three-game series against the lowly San Diego Padres.
San Francisco, which is in third place in the NL West, held the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks to just three runs in each meeting while pounding out 21 runs during the three-game series.
Randy Winn hit two home runs, including a solo blast in the ninth inning, to lift the Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Diamondbacks during the series finale on Thursday.
Matt Cain (2-3, 4.43 ERA) hopes the run support continues when he takes the mound for San Francisco on Friday.
The 23-year-old righthander gave up two runs and five hits in six innings, walking two while striking out six but did not factor in the decision during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Florida Marlins.
Greg Maddux (3-4, 3.76), who has just one win in his last five decisions, tries to earn his first victory since May 10 when he toes the rubber for the Padres.
San Diego (21-34) is just one-half game in front of the Colorado Rockies (20-34) for last place in the division and the worst record in the league.
