Mariners face Tigers in finale
Jun 1, 2008 - 3:35 PM Detroit (23-32) at Seattle (21-35) 4:10 p.m. EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- Miguel Batista looks to build on a strong outing when the Seattle Mariners face the Detroit Tigers in the rubber game of a three-game series.
Batista (3-6, 5.98) carried a 6.47 ERA into his most recent start Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox. But the Venezuelan righthander held the defending world champions in check, allowing just a three-run homer to Manny Ramirez in seven innings but did not factor in the decision.
The Tigers counter with Jeremy Bonderman (3-4, 4.34). The righthander is 1-0 in his last three starts, not allowing more than three runs in any of the outings.
Bonderman beat the Mariners on May 22, giving up two runs and eight hits in six innings.
Detroit took the series opener, 7-4, on Friday, pounding Carlos Silva for all seven runs in the first inning.
But the Mariners got their revenge on Saturday as Felix Hernandez allowed just two hits in seven frames and Kenji Johjima drove in a pair and stole home en route to a 5-0 victory.
