Halladay, Blue Jays hope to end skid, face Orioles
Jun 8, 2008 - 2:16 PM Baltimore (31-30) at Toronto (32-32) 1:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- Roy Halladay looks to continue his dominance against an American League East foe.
Halladay and the Toronto Blue Jays hope to avoid a fifth straight loss when they face the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
Toronto suffered a 9-5 loss to Baltimore on Saturday to drop one-half game behind the surprising Orioles and into a last-place tie with the New York Yankees in the AL East.
However, the Blue Jays send Halladay (7-5, 2.94 ERA) to the mound to try to win his seventh straight decision against Baltimore.
The 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner, Halladay is a career 16-4 with a 2.84 ERA in 26 games, including 22 starts vs. his division rival. The 6-6 righthander hasn't lost to Baltimore in his last eight outings, a span that dates to May 2005.
The Orioles counter with rookie Radhames Liz (1-0, 3.38), who gave up two runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 5-3 win against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. It was the young righthander's first major league win in his season debut.
A win by Baltimore on Sunday would give the Orioles their first three-game sweep at the Rogers Centre in more than three years.
