Johnson, Diamondbacks face Pirates in finale

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- In his first start since moving into sole possession of second place on the all-time strikeout list, Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks will meet the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday in the finale of a four-game series.

Johnson struck out eight batters in his last outing - a 7-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The lefthander, who entered the game tied with Roger Clemens for second all-time in strikeouts, now has 4,680 for his career.

The 44-year-old Johnson (4-2, 3.88 ERA) still trails Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, who recorded 5,714 strikeouts during his 27-season career.

He will be opposed by Zach Duke (3-4, 4.19), who yielded two runs and seven hits over 7 2/3 innings during Wednesday's 5-2 victory over the Houston Astros.

Adam LaRoche went 3-for-4 and Raul Chavez added two hits with two runs scored and an RBI as the Pirates defeated the Diamondbacks, 6-4, on Sunday.

The win allowed Pittsburgh to avoid its third straight loss after Arizona won the first two games of the series.
