Giambi, Yankees hope to keep rolling

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Jason Giambi and the New York Yankees will seek their third consecutive victory Monday when they host the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a four-game series.

Giambi homered for the second straight game and third time in his last four contests Sunday, blasting a solo home run in the Yankees' 6-3 win over the Royals.

The 37-year-old Giambi is batting .259 with 14 homers and 34 RBI this season.

New York, which has won four of its previous five games, will send veteran righthander Mike Mussina (9-4, 4.01 ERA) to the mound. The 39-year-old Mussina is hoping to become the first American League pitcher to reach 10 wins this season.

Mussina, who has won each of his last three starts, surrendered one run and five hits with six strikeouts over six frames in Wednesday's 5-1 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Kansas City will counter with Luke Hochevar (3-5, 5.13), who is trying to snap a three-game losing streak.

Hochevar did not receive a decision in his last start, allowing four runs and five hits with five walks and two strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings during Wednesday's 6-4 setback to the Chicago White Sox.
