Duke, Pirates aim to even series with Orioles
Jun 14, 2008 - 12:57 PM PITTSBURGH (33-35) at BALTIMORE (33-33), 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Zach Duke and the Pittsburgh Pirates hope to rebound from a tough loss when they face the Baltimore Orioles in interleague play on Saturday.
Pittsburgh had won two straight and four of five entering Baltimore on Friday, but lost the series opener, 9-6, after squandered a 6-1 lead.
The loss prevented Pittsburgh from reaching the .500 mark for the first time since April 15.
The visitors hand the ball to Duke (4-4, 4.10 ERA), who seeks his third straight victory. The lefthander allowed two runs and five hits in six innings in a 5-3 win vs. Arizona last Monday.
Baltimore counters with rookie Radhames Liz (1-0, 3.48 ERA), who has been solid in his two starts since being recalled from Class AAA Norfolk on June 2. The 25-year-old righthander has given up two runs and four hits in both of his outings, earning a win against Minnesota.
