Rockies seek third straight win vs. road-weary Braves

Jun 16, 2008 - 1:25 PM Atlanta (34-36) at Colorado (28-41), 8:05 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies will go for their third consecutive victory Monday when they host the Atlanta Braves in a make-up game.

The contest was originally scheduled for April 10, but was postponed due to snow. The Rockies had won the first three games of that series before the finale had to be rescheduled.

Brad Hawpe hit a go-ahead, solo home run in the top of the sixth inning Sunday as the Rockies took the rubber match of a three-game set from the Chicago White Sox with a 5-3 victory. Chris Iannetta also homered and Scott Podsednik had a pair of RBI singles for last-place Colorado, which won its fourth straight series.

The Braves failed to score a run the last time out, getting blanked by Joe Saunders and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 2-0, on Sunday. Atlanta slugger Chipper Jones is hitless over his last 11 at-bats, lowering his major league-best batting average to .402.

Rookie Jair Jurrjens (6-3, 3.77 ERA) will take the mound for the Braves after missing his last scheduled start with an ankle injury. The 22-year-old righthander has not lost since May 12.

The Rockies will counter with lefthander Ubaldo Jimenez (1-6, 4.93), who is currently riding a five-game losing streak and hoping to record his first win since April 8.

The 24-year-old Dominican tossed seven scoreless frames in Wednesday's 1-0 triumph over the San Francisco Giants, but he did not receive a decision. He surrendered just four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
