Branyan has Brewers poised for series sweep
Jun 19, 2008 - 1:09 PM Toronto (35-38) at Milwaukee (38-33) 2:05 p.m. EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Russell Branyan and the Milwaukee Brewers go for a three-game sweep when they wrap up an interleague series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.
Branyan homered for the third time in four games as the Brewers topped the Blue Jays, 5-4, on Wednesday.
The veteran's solo home run on Wednesday was his ninth since being recalled from Class AAA Nashville on May 24. Milwaukee has posted a 16-7 record since Branyan's arrival.
"I'm really enjoying the playing time I'm getting and really enjoying the way the team's playing as well," said Branyan, who is batting .305 with 14 RBI this season. "We've been winning a bunch of ball games. It's nice to be a part of it. I came up early on and hit a couple homers and any time you get a little spark like that, it's contagious."
Branyan looks to continue his hot hitting against Blue Jays starter A.J. Burnett (6-6, 4.90 ERA), who has allowed 10 runs on 14 hits over his last two starts.
Dave Bush (2-7, 5.73) will counter for the Brewers, who boast a 22-12 home record this year.
