Reyes, Mets aim to build off thrilling win

DENVER (Ticker) -- Jose Reyes and the New York Mets aim to build off a thrilling come-from-behind win Friday in the opener of a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies.

Reyes had three hits and scored the tying run when David Wright singled off closer Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth inning, and hit a go-ahead home run in the 10th to lead New York to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday.

It was the first win as Mets manager for Manuel, who took over when Willie Randolph was fired on Tuesday. The win was particularly stunning because New York had been just 1-31 when trailing after eight innings under Randolph this season.

Now, Reyes and the Mets will try and get revenge against Aaron Cook (10-3, 3.29 ERA), who tossed a four-hitter against them in a 4-1 win on May 25. Cook has won three straight starts, and has not lost in exactly a month.

Cook will be opposed by John Maine (6-5, 3.87), whom he beat the last time the teams met. Maine has just one win in his last six starts. The righthander was tagged for five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 8-7 loss in the first game of a doubleheader with Texas on Sunday.

Maine will face a Rockies team that has won 11 of its last 15 games. Jeff Baker snapped a tie with a solo home run as Colorado finished of a three-game sweep of Cleveland with a 6-3 victory on Thursday.
