Uggla hopes to keep hot bat vs. A's

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Athletics already have seen enough of Dan Uggla for one season.

Uggla attempts to continue his one-man assault for his Florida Marlins on Sunday, when they look to take the rubber contest of a three-game interleague series against the Athletics.

After nearly winning Friday's series opener all by himself with four hits - including two homers - Uggla belted a three-run double in the ninth inning off Oakland closer Huston Street on Saturday that snapped a tie and gave the Marlins a 6-4 win.

Uggla, who leads the majors with 23 home runs, is batting .429 (9-for-21) with four homers and nine RBI over his last five games.

On Sunday, Uggla will face surprising Justin Duchscherer (7-4, 2.08 ERA), who would lead the American League in ERA if he wasn't 4 2/3 innings shy of the minimum needed to qualify.

The former reliever-turned-starter hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start this season and posted his third straight win in Tuesday's 15-1 romp over the Arizona Diamondbacks. In that outing, Duchscherer yielded one run and five hits over eight innings, striking out six.

Florida counters with Andrew Miller (5-5, 4.87), one of the key pieces acquired from Detroit in the Miguel Cabrera trade in the offseason. The 23-year-old lefthander ended a four-game winless drought after allowing one run and six hits over seven innings in Monday's 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
