Streaking Brewers aim for fifth straight win
Jun 25, 2008 - 12:10 PM Milwaukee (43-34) at Atlanta (38-41) 1:00 p.m. EDTATLANTA (Ticker) -- After a slow start, the Milwaukee Brewers are heating up.
They will aim for a fifth straight win Wednesday when they visit the Atlanta Braves in the finale of a three-game series.
After playing .500 baseball for the first two months of the season while their offense sputtered and starting pitchers such as Chris Capuano and Yovani Gallardo suffered season-ending injuries, the club has gone 15-6 in June.
The recent hot streak has the club firmly in the thick of things in the National League, as they have pulled to within five games of the Chicago Cubs (48-29) in the NL Central and 1 1/2 games of the St. Louis Cardinals (45-33) in the wild card standings.
On Wednesday, the Brewers will try to solve Braves' rookie Jorge Campillo (2-2, 2.54 ERA), who has dropped his last two starts, allowing a total of six runs in 14 1/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners.
Milwaukee will counter with veteran righthander Jeff Suppan (4-5, 3.92). The 33-year-old has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his six starts, but was lifted from his last start Friday against Baltimore after surrendering six runs - three earned - in 1 2/3 innings.
