Cook aims to end Royals' interleague success
Jun 25, 2008 - 1:28 PM Colorado (32-46) at Kansas City (35-43) 8:10 p.m. EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Colorado Rockies starter Aaron Cook aims to put an end to the Kansas City Royals' interleague dominance on Wednesday when the teams continue a three-game series.
Cook (10-4, 3.57 ERA) has been the Rockies best pitcher this season, leading the team in victories and innings (111) while winning three of his last four starts. The 29-year-old righthander has dominated on the road in 2008, posting a 6-2 record and 3.86 ERA in nine starts.
However, Cook stumbled in his last start Friday, allowing six runs and 12 hits in seven innings during a 7-2 loss to the New York Mets.
The Royals have won four straight games and own a major league-best 11-3 record in interleague play this season.
Kansas City won the series opener, 7-3, on Tuesday behind a stellar outing from starter Zach Greinke, who allowed just three runs in six innings while tying a career high with 10 strikeouts.
Luke Hochevar (4-5, 4.86), who hasn't lost since May 29, but has earned just one win over his last four starts, will try to duplicate Greinke's effort when he toes the rubber Wednesday.
