Owings, Diamondbacks take aim at Marlins
Jun 27, 2008 - 12:58 PM ARIZONA (40-39) at FLORIDA (40-38) 7:10 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- Micah Owings and the Arizona Diamondbacks are looking for redemption against a foe that started them on a downward spiral - the Florida Marlins.
Arizona has lost 23 of its last 35 games, a stretch that began in mid-May when the Marlins earned a three-game sweep. Prior to that, Arizona had owned the best record in the majors.
The visitors hand the ball to Owings (6-6, 5.11 ERA), who lost to the Marlins back on May 20, despite striking out a career-high 10 batters. The righthander won his next start, but has struggled in his last five outings, going 0-4 with an 8.53 ERA.
Florida, which has dropped four in a row, counters with Ricky Nolasco (7-4, 4.31).
The 25-year-old righthander has won five of his last six decisions beginning with a seven-inning outing against Arizona on May 21. He has won both of his previous starts vs. the Diamondbacks.
The Marlins have dropped six of their last eight games and nine of 13 while Arizona has lost five of six games on its nine-game road trip, scoring a total of 12 runs in the process.
