Orioles looking to build momentum vs. Nationals
Jun 27, 2008 - 1:29 PM Baltimore (40-37) at Washington (31-49) 7:35 p.m. EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- After an impressive series win, the Baltimore Orioles have the chance to build some momentum on Friday when they open a three-game interleague series against the Washington Nationals.
The Orioles are coming off a three-game series victory against the Chicago Cubs, who own the best record in the majors. Baltimore looked particularly strong in the series finale on Thursday, posting an 11-4 victory - just the fourth time this season the club has logged at least 10 runs.
The series victory was just the second for any team at Wrigley Field in 2008 and helped the Orioles improve to 14-9 in June.
After facing the elite team in the National League, the Orioles now face the NL-worst Nationals.
Washington pitchers have posted a 5.29 ERA in losing nine of their last 12 home games.
Odalis Perez (2-5, 4.09 ERA) tries to reverse that trend when he takes the mound. Perez is making his first start since June 3 following a stint on the 15-day disabled list due to tendinitis in his left shoulder.
Daniel Cabrera (5-3, 4.46) counters for Baltimore having posted an 0-2 record with a 7.43 ERA in four starts this month.
