Royals eye seventh consecutive victory
Jun 28, 2008 - 12:55 PM St. Louis (45-36) at Kansas City (37-43) 7:10 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Mitchell Boggs has yet to experience a loss in the majors through four starts. If the Kansas City Royals continue to play like they have lately though, that distinction figures to come to a quick end.
Boggs and the St. Louis Cardinals will try to keep the streaking Royals from winning their seventh straight game on Saturday when the in-state rivals continue their three-game interleague set.
Even though the 24-year-old Boggs (2-0, 5.40 ERA) pitched into the sixth inning for the first time in his career in a 9-3 win at Boston last Saturday, he posted his second win after allowing three runs and five hits over a season-high 5 1/3 innings.
That perfect record figures to be tested by the Royals, who have won 11 of their last 12, including six in a row - their longest winning streak since opening the 2003 season with nine straight victories. Kansas City is also 13-3 in interleague play this season - tied with Minnesota for the best in the majors.
To continue their impressive run, the Royals will turn to Kyle Davies (3-0, 3.12), who will attempt to recover from his last start even though his offense rallied late to save him from a loss.
The righthander surrendered five runs and six hits over just 1 1/3 innings, but didn't factor in Kansas City's 11-10 win over San Francisco. The Royals rallied from a seven-run deficit for the win.
