Final/12
Orioles hope to keep offense rolling vs. Nationals
Jun 29, 2008 - 1:06 PM Baltimore (41-38) at Washington (32-50), 1:35 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles wrap up a nine-game road trip Sunday, squaring off against the lowly Washington Nationals in the rubber match of a three-game interleague series.
The Orioles have gone 4-4 on the their trek, scoring 44 runs over that stretch. Adam Jones collected four hits as Baltimore cruised to a 9-1 triumph on Saturday.
The key acquisition in the Erik Bedard trade this offseason, Jones is batting .274 with four home runs and 28 RBI this season.
The Nationals, who have lost eight of their previous 11 contests, will send Jason Bergmann (1-5, 4.60 ERA) to the mound. The righthander has been the victim of the club's lack of offense this season.
Bergman is 0-4 over his last seven starts, despite posting a respectable 3.27 ERA over that stretch. Washington has lost each of those starts, scoring just 13 runs over those seven games.
The Orioles will counter with Jeremy Guthrie (4-7, 3.64), who gave up four runs and seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts over six frames in Tuesday's 7-5 triumph over the Chicago Cubs.
