Webb looks to halt Diamondbacks' struggles

Jul 3, 2008 - 1:22 PM Milwaukee (46-38) at Arizona (42-43), 3:40 p.m. EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Things have gone from bad to worse for the plummeting Arizona Diamondbacks lately.

After dropping their eighth game in the last 11, the Diamondbacks hope ace Brandon Webb can turn their fortunes around Thursday in the finale of a four-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers.

After Wednesday's 4-3 loss, Arizona fell below the .500 mark for the first time this season since being 1-2 through three games.

Webb (12-4, 3.21 ERA) leads the majors in wins and is coming off a victory against the Florida Marlins on Saturday, when he threw six innings and allowed just two runs and five hits.

Prior to that outing, though, Webb allowed 12 runs in 10 1/3 innings in two starts against the Oakland Athletics and Minnesota Twins, respectively.

Manny Parra (8-2, 3.95), who has won six consecutive starts and seven decisions overall, will take the mound for Milwaukee, which is just two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League wild card race. Milwaukee also has won 10 of its last 13 against the Diamondbacks.

Brewers slugger Prince Fielder went 0-for-4 on Wednesday to extend his skid to 2-for-31 over nine games, and Ryan Braun is 0-for-10 in the series.
